I just wanted to share a quick teaser from an exciting wedding in Cabo. Alhad and Andrea really made my job easy and this shot is just a sample of the fun we had. Bouncing around Cabo, fireworks at the reception, lounging at the amazing Capella and even a quick stop at a funky Taqueria it was really special. What a wonderful wedding experience in Cuba this year. I had waited a long time to finally visit this amazing country, the 76th I’ve been so lucky to see, and I only wish I could have gone sooner. Chloe and Mike said “I do” at the wonderful Melia Varadero resort and then took to the streets of Havana for a Trash the Dress session to remember. Trashing the Dress in La Habana was something that we will not soon forget. The Cubans treated us so well and no matter where we went we were welcomed with open arms and great big smiles. Thanks so much for making us a special part of your wedding in such a special place! I’m still enjoying my Havana Rum and Romeo and Juliet’s!lol

A two month trip with two children as we backpacked through Eastern and Western Europe.

As I prepare to leave for South America in a few days I had time to compose some video clips of our family trip to Eastern and Western Europe. I haven’t worked with video is some time so this trip was a great chance to kick the dust off, work on some footage and see what works and what doesn’t. I learned an awful lot about what doesn’t work and it reminded me that you can’t just take video and hope the story works out, you have to have a vision of what you want in mind and then follow the story.

This video is just a taste of our family vacation and has just a few clips from our two month trip but they really help tell the story of our time away. We were so incredibly fortunate to visit these countries and I really think having some moving images helps translate the beauty which we saw.

After a long absence from wedding posts I truly have waited long enough to post this wonderful wedding. Lorie and Erik got married in the perfect little village of Santa Teresa in Costa Rica in such a cool setting. My wife and I were also married in Costa Rica over four years ago and this was my first trip back since and my first time in this region. I have to say that it is a gem and I’m so glad I was able to be there. Santa Teresa has a great vibe, great surf and so nicely tucked away from San Jose and some other tourist areas which can have that overwhelming feeling. Lorie and Erik live in Florida so I think they picked an equally nice wedding destination for all the guests.

With just family and close friends in attendance they truly had a perfect experience and something that we are all still raving about. Erik would surf in the morning and Lori and the girls would work-out and TRX during the days on the beach. I’d love to share the images we captured from their wedding and their trash the dress session on the beach and in town. Thanks so much Lorie and Erik!

Anything can happen in a New York minute.

This was my first trip back to New York in over 14 years. I can’t believe it in fact, I’m really old. The last time I was there I was standing between the trade towers staring up and spending less than 100 dollars a day including a bed, food (drinks too) and a room. And back then that was a lot more money than I was used to spending while traveling.

My first trip there was pretty magical. 21 years old I rode in by greyhound bus sitting beside a really “neat” guy who’s B.O was so bad that I forced my face into the vent for most of the trip from Philly to NY. Only to wind up at the bus terminal surrounded by the cast of what looked like a NYPD blue crime scene. Standing awestruck with no where to go and carrying my bag I ventured through the city with my Lonely Planet. Nights were spent at the HI in upper Manhattan for 30 bucks where I was again blessed to share a room with many of my new, also poor friends. It may sound pretty pathetic, but it was one of the greatest cities I ever had the chance to visit.

This trip was so very special to me. It was a chance for Colleen and I to have a few days without the kids to stay up late, some nights after midnight and explore a city without carrying a diaper bag and two restless kids. It was bliss.

Things were much different this time around. Instead of bunk bed at the hostel we rented a condo off a block off Madison Ave and right on the park, some would call this a step up. However it wasn’t 30 dollars either. I really thought it was a great location, but not one that I would stay near or in again. I really loved the Hells kitchen area, and the upper east side off of 2nd ave, that was my kind of strip. Lined with pubs and tonnes of restaurants it was really cool and full of energy.

Things that I had to do on this trip was to catch up on my movie nostalgia. You may laugh, it’s ok if you do but When Harry met Sally is one of my favorite movies. Most of which was filmed in New York, so I made Colleen eat at Katz’s Deli where the famous Orgasm scene was filmed, hit up Washington Square where they arrived in New York amongst many other movie appearances. Other big locations were Carolines comedy where Louis C.K films sequences for Louis. And basically just walking around the city is like being in a living movie set. I’m pretty sure Colleen was getting tired of being inundated with what she considered useless movie trivia.

What we really loved was when we got off in Marcy station and wandered around in Brooklyn for most of our last day before walking back over the Brooklyn Bridge, if you’ve ever seen Once upon a time in America you’ll love this part of New York city. We wandered for hours and just loved the vibe over there.

This was 3 days and 4 nights. It’s easy to see why so many people go back for a second trip, or more. What I did really notice more than I had in the past was the overwhelming drive for people to shop in New York. I say this lightly, but shopping is truly shoved down your throat in Manhattan. And aside from the most awesome park that is Central Park there is no other green space anywhere.haha Kids playgrounds resemble prisons for midgets, with slides. And watching people running through the city was so funny. Unless you are in Central Park, don’t bother.

What I love most about New York is the energy and the movie connection. It really is alive and bustling and so diverse in such a small area. There wasn’t one time when we felt like we had nothing to do, in fact we overloaded ourselves with things to do, walked more than 6 hours per day and got lost in some amazing streets.

I really hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed taking them. It’s a very special place and I’m so proud to share some of the highlights.

Spring is finally here and you can truly feel it everywhere you go. Anju Gordon and I had an amazing night roaming the city of Edmonton. For our wonderful University of Alberta to Alexander Circle I’m often reminded of this great town. Enjoy just a small sample of our session and look forward to their wedding in only a few weeks time.

Here is a short teaser from my last trip and wedding in Cuba. I was very excited to finally visit this country, my 76th country to date, and I must say I’m so disappointed I hadn’t been to Cuba sooner. In my humble opinion the city of Havana truly ranks in the top 10 in the world that I have been to. I can’t quite explain it but some places I have been to in my life are not just amazing and special but capture you and make you feel so good. The people, the colours and the energy just grabs you and makes you want to stay put for ever. Havana was truly an amazing city and one that I hope to visit again really soon.

The first trash the dress shot above is one I’m so pleased to have taken and so glad Chloe wanted to be a part of. As we walked through the city and it’s squares shooting our wedding session I noticed this woman as we walked by on a tight street. Call it pure luck but I stopped about 20 paces after we passed her and went back to talk with her as I thought I had recognized her from this wonderful shot from a photographer by the name of Dmitri Markine. He had done a shot with this woman before and I had seen it on a National Geographic post. What amazing fortune to have seen this beautiful woman in person and to have Chloe sit with her for a special moment. It was moments like these that will make this short trip to Cuba a very memorable one. I promise to have more from this Havana wedding in future posts but for now enjoy just a small taste of the wonderful country.

This was a shot I took many moons ago at Sakkara, outside Cairo in Egypt. Commonly known as the “step Pyramid” is the oldest known of the 97 Egyptian pyramids. The one that started it all. My now wife Colleen and I traveled here on Christmas day and truly found ourselves in love. With only a handful of toursits making the trip here it’s one of those gems that because of it’s isolation from the bigger landmarks , and being on Christmas day, made it a touch more special to me.

The other side of the coin is that when you are nearly alone, and the only tourists, well then there’s no chance of escaping a tout. This man hung out with us for the better part of an hour trying to show us the hidden places to see and giving us a tour.

The area was incredible and this was truly a Christmas that we’ll never forget.

I’m very excited to show a few images and a small video from a great and edgy session with Kendra and Dustin in downtown Calgary. I’ve known Dustin for many years going back to our days growing up in Fort McMurray and recently as he one half of the dynamic duo know as the Boogie Hill Faders which I’ve worked with. I was joined on this really fun e-session with a great friend and talaneted photogrpaher Kelly Redinger and during the course of the day we managed to shoot a great snowball fight, enjoy a cappo at DeVille and even put together some fun fusion of video and still work in the video clip below. I can’t thank you and Kendra enough for the great afternoon and I’m so excited for your wedding this summer!
